For 117 years the Children's Aid Society of Oxford County has been providing their services from various locations. That location is about to change once more getting bigger and better. The new facility will be in the former parking lot at Peel and Wilson, a location that Executive Director Bruce Burbank says is in the heart of the area that they serve. He says the building will be larger allowing for enhanced services. "We'll have more space for programs, for visitation. We'll have space that other community organizations will be able to use from time to time," said Burbank. Community members and neighbours gathered to watch the groundbreaking Wednesday afternoon. Ashley Farrar was one of them excited to have the building near her home. "We're looking forward to it, having something take up this space. We hear it's going to be very nice looking, and it won't just be an empty lot anymore," said Farrar. The new building will have three stories totaling 36,000 square feet as well as a lower level (a model of the facility is in the picture on the right). The construction cost will be around $9.6 million.
