West Region OPP officers responded to over 200 crashes between Sunday and Monday.
WEST REGION - It has been a busy start to the week for OPP officers in the West Region.
Officers responded to over 200 crashes between Sunday and 5:00 p.m. yesterday.
In a video posted on X yesterday, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk said they all had something in common and it might not be what you think.
"While weather conditions can make driving more challenging, investigations continue to show that the primary causes of these crashes are behaviours such as driving too fast for conditions, following to closely, and not adjusting to traffic flow."
He provided some advice for drivers out there.
"To help prevent further collisions please slow down to allow extra time for travel, increase your following distance, use headlights to improve visibility, drive to the conditions and not the posted speed limit, stay focused and avoid unnecessary distractions, and make sure your vehicle is entirely cleared off of all ice and snow."
Sanchuk also stated that safe driving is a shared responsibility and every driver plays a critical role in preventing risks on our roads.
Over 200 crashes investigated since Sunday-and the common factor is not the weather! It's poor driving habits. #OPP urging all motorists to drive to the conditions, NOT the posted limit! Please drive safe. #WROPP ^es pic.twitter.com/f0QAwWXenW
