Amid trying to weather the storm of COVID-19, organizers of the 21st Annual Thames River Clean Up feel they cannot ensure everyone's safety and proper physical distancing, therefore must cancel the event.
OXFORD COUNTY - Due to COVID-19 concerns, organizers of the annual Thames River Clean up have called off this year's event.
The annual event has been going on for 20 years in celebration of Earth Day. The event brings together thousands of people to help clean up the Thames River from Mitchell to Lake St. Clair.
Rescheduling has happened in the past, but usually for weather related reasons, like high water or storms. This year, as we all try to weather the storm of COVID-19, organizers feel they cannot ensure everyone's safety and proper physical distancing, therefore must cancel the event on April 25th. It would have been the 21st annual.
Earth Day is April 22nd, everyone is encouraged to do their part while out walking trails along the Thames River and pick up trash safely.
