According to OPP, people have been receiving text messages from fraudsters pretending to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.
Oxford OPP are warning the public about a new version of the Canada Revenue Agency Scam.
How it works is you will get a text on your cell phone that appears to come from the CRA. The text will link to a CRA website which looks legitimate, but is not. Once you go on the site it will ask you for your personal information, including your name, social insurance number and credit card information.
Fraudsters will send this to you as a way to get their hands on your personal information. Police are warning the public to never give out personal information online and to know that the CRA will never solicit this type of information via text message.
The CRA is aware of these scams and you can find more information online. For more information on fraud, call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or visit their website.
