OPP and Woodstock Police will be hitting the roads this Thanksgiving long weekend for Operation Impact.
OXFORD COUNTY - OPP will be hitting the roads this Thanksgiving long weekend for Operation Impact.
They will be on the lookout for the Big Four driving behaviours that have caused fatalities. They can be blamed for a total of 156 deaths on OPP patrolled roads so far this year alone.
There's speeding, which has caused 50 deaths so far this year. Inattentive drivers can be blamed for 37 deaths, 35 fatalities have been linked to drugs and alcohol and 34 people have died because they weren't wearing a seat belt.
Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair says they want to make sure everyone travels safe this weekend.
"So far this year, the OPP has laid more than 175,155 charges against aggressive, inattentive, alcohol and drug-impaired drivers, and unbuckled vehicle occupants. The three behaviours associated with driving are linked to 15,269 collisions to date, 95 of which were fatal. The goal of Operation Impact is not about issuing traffic tickets. It is about seeing every driver, without police intervention, refrain from risky driving behaviours and every vehicle occupant buckled up."
