OPP officers across the province are cracking down on people not wearing their seatbelts. Already this year 34 people who were not buckled up have died on OPP patrolled roads. That is up from 30 fatalities at this time last year.
OPP Deputy Commishoner Brad Blair says the stats from 2018 are very alarming.
"Regardless of technological advances in vehicle safety, a seat belt remains your first line of defence and your best chance of surviving a collision. While air bags are a second line of defence, they will not restrain you. Only your seat belt can hold you in place. Whether you are a driver or passenger, don't let anyone in a vehicle be without their seat belt properly fastened."
The OPP province wide seatbelt enforcement and safety blitz starts today and will run until October 5th.
