West Region OPP officers laid close to 170 charges under the seatbelt law over between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
WEST REGION - The West Region OPP has released the results of its seatbelt enforcement campaign.
Up to 168 charges were laid over the Easter long weekend and three of them were in Oxford County. Wellington had the most with 75, followed by Grey Bruce with 25, Middlesex with 17, and Elgin with 16.
Failure to wear a seatbelt was either the cause or a contributing factor in the deaths of 41 people on OPP patrolled roads in 2025. Fourteen of those deaths were in West Region.
West Region OPP officers also issued 951 charges for speeding, 30 charges for distracted driving, and 31 charges for impaired driving between Good Friday and Easter Monday this year. Oxford accounts for 17 of the speeding charges, two of the impaired driving charges and none of the distracted driving charges.
