The large quantity of drugs were sent to Health Canada for testing after they were initially believed to be Percocet pills.
BRANT COUNTY - OPP are warning the public about purchasing illicit drugs on the street after one officer performed a traffic stop late last year.
A member of the Brant County OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 403 in September of 2019.
The officer found a large quantity of what was believed to be Percocet pills and the police sent the pills to Health Canada for testing.
The pills were recently analysed and found to be fentanyl, with the belief that they were meant for illicit distribution.
Detachment Commander, Inspector Lisa Anderson explains the dangers of fentanyl.
"To put the potency of fentanyl into context, if you cut a baby aspirin into 324 pieces, one of those pieces would equal a lethal dose. Public safety of our community is our priority. If you choose to purchase illicit street drugs you need to be aware of this safety issue."
The OPP is reminding the public that anytime you buy drugs on the street you can never be certain of what it contains.
Police say fentanyl is 50-100 times more potent than morphine and 30-50 times more potent than heroin. They say just 0.25mg can kill an adult.
