Norfolk OPP is encouraging everyone to take extra precautions and stay safe as they travel during the upcoming eclipse on Monday, April 8.
NORFOLK COUNTY - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is reminding all motorists to take additional precautions on the roads if they intend to participate in any solar eclipse events or celebrations.
On Monday, April 8, a solar eclipse will pass over North America, journeying across Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Ontario residents and tourists are encouraged to prioritize road safety when travelling to participate in planned solar eclipse events. They say that sharing the road safely is particularly crucial when attending large gatherings that generate higher than normal traffic volumes.
Drivers should be prepared for potential delays in getting to and from their destination and are reminded to exercise caution and patience. As well, drivers planning to travel in areas hosting large solar eclipse events are advised to check local community news and websites for traffic management information, such as detours and parking arrangements.
The OPP says it is dedicated to ensuring road safety during these events and relies on motorists to drive safely and comply with all traffic laws.
It adds it's important to remember that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 9-1-1 to report it.
