Oxford County Public Health has already documented six opioid related E-R visits for 2018.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Public Health is conducting a situational assessment for the Oxford County Drug Strategy.
Manager of Health Protection Peter Haywood says they want to hear from opioid users and their family, so they can provide their input on the services the county offers.
"These are the people that we need to reach out to and the ones we need to talk to. They have the best understanding of what their needs are, what the barriers are and where and how they need access to services."
The goal is to bring down the number of opioid related deaths, hospitalizations and ER visits in Oxford County.
Opioids sent 16 people to an Oxford County hospital between January and September of 2017. The county has also reported a total of four opioid related deaths between January and October of last year.
Oxford County Public Health has already documented six opioid related ER visits for 2018 as of April 1st. 69 visits were reported in total for 2017.
Epidemiologist Melissa MacLeod says they are not sure how exact their numbers are, because they have a new way of collecting information.
"We've developed some new ways to track these numbers so we're not quite sure yet if we're seeing more because we're paying more attention to it or if it's actually a true increase. We're just keeping an eye on it."
Contact Oxford County Public Health if you would like to provide your input. The deadline is Friday May 4th.
