Southwestern Public Health is looking to get people talking about the dangers of drug use.
WOODSTOCK - The dangers of drug use is the topic for a booth coming to downtown Woodstock.
Public Health Nurse, Gayle Milne says Southwestern Public Health will hit the streets in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day on Thursday.
"We'll be having a booth at Market Square with a display to honour the victims of opioid overdose in Oxford County and we'll also at our table be answering questions from people who may have questions about addiction or overdose prevention and harm reduction."
Nurses will be at the booth from 11am till 4pm to provide naloxone training and take-home naloxone kits.
All residents who know someone at risk of an opioid overdose are encouraged to learn how to use a naloxone kit in the event of an overdose.
She says Opioid addiction is an issue that has hit Oxford County.
"Oxford County just like every other community in Ontario has been unfortunately been touched by overdoses. We just want to make sure people are aware of the prevention strategies so we can hopefully prevent these things happening in the future."
It is believed that nine Oxford residents died from opioid use in 2017 alone.
