Dr. David Williams says with 65% of the population receiving at least 1 dose of vaccine, it is safe to send kids back to school.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario says it would be great to see kids head back to class.
Dr. David Williams made the comments during a daily press briefing today. He says almost all health units are prepared to welcome students back to class if a decision was made. The only one not ready is the Porcupine Health Unit based out of Timmins, that has had a recent spike in cases.
Dr. Williams notes by the end of day today, 65% of adults in Ontario will have had a least one dose of vaccine. He says that based on the current vaccination rate, it is safe for schools to reopen.
Earlier in the day, Premier Doug Ford sent a letter to the science table, health units, education unions and hospital boards, looking for a consensus on schools reopening. He asked for answer by late Friday afternoon.
