A man in his 40s is the first Ontarian to die of a blood clot after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
The news was confirmed by Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe.
"Unfortunately, I must report that we now in Ontario have our first death associated with VITT (vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia)," Yaffe said.
She notes the man got the shot near the end of April and died a few weeks later.
Earlier this month, the province announced it wouldn't offer any more first doses of the vaccine, due to concerns surrounding blood clots.
