ONTARIO - The Ontario Government has released the 2021 budget tabled Protecting People's Health and our Economy.
It calls for $51 Billion in spending to combat COVID-19. The budget calls for the largest amount of spending in the Province's history and will leave Ontario with a $33 billion dollar deficit.
Highlights include plans to vaccinate everyone and $2.3 Billion for testing and contact tracing. Over $1 Billion will be spent on PPE for frontline workers and vulnerable people.
The budget also includes $933 million over four years, for a total of $2.6 billion, to support building 30,000 new long-term care beds and $4.9 billion over four years to increase the average direct daily care to four hours a day in long-term care and hiring more than 27,000 new positions, including personal support workers (PSWs) and nurses.
Ontario is also introducing a new Jobs Training Tax Credit. It would provide up to $2,000 per recipient for 50 per cent of eligible expenses, for a total of an estimated $260 million in support to about 230,000 people in 2021.
The budget also includes billions of dollars to support mental health, businesses and tourism.
Ontario is also providing a second round of Ontario Small Business Support Grant payments to eligible recipients. Parents can also expect a third round of COVID-19 payments. This will give parents $400 for each child, or $500 for each child with special needs which is double the amount of the previous payments.
