Ron Forbes calls attempt to move Beachville Hydro Works yard to Woodstock 'wrong'
ZORRA - Zorra Township will have their say when it comes to the potential sale of Woodstock Hydro. The Ontario Energy Board granted Zorra intervener status at the Ontario Energy Board Hearing.
Councillor Ron Forbes says the main issue for him is the potential for the Beachville Hydro Works yard to be moved to Woodstock.
"As far as the City of Woodstock, I mean they've got their right to sell their utility if they see fit. We are not trying to stop that, but it's just that little thing that was mentioned about relocating the Beachville field office and that's taking a tax payer out of Zorra and putting it in Woodstock and that's wrong. It shouldn't be done."
"If that was used as an incentive to close this deal then Zorra Township should have been notified. If we've got one municipality using that as an incentive to finish the deal then we can't have a neighbouring municipality poaching the tax base of another."
Zorra council has also raised concerns that in an emergency, Woodstock would receive service faster from Hydro One than rural communities.
Forbes says no date or location has been set at this point for the hearing.
