The Oxford County Library's Ingersoll branch will be hosting a book launch for George Emery later this month.
INGERSOLL - A local author is set to release his newest book.
The Oxford County Library's Ingersoll Branch will be hosting the book launch for Blacks in a White Place: Ingersoll Canada West and Ontario, 1850-1921 on July 27th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Author George Emery will be on hand to talk about the lives of Ingersoll’s black citizens from 1850 to 1921 and explain why the population eventually declined.
The population of Black people got to its highest in the heart of southwestern Ontario on the eve of the American Civil War, which saw the race make up three percent of the Ingersoll-area population. Emery’s book looks at and puts to bed the myths and folklore while providing a clear and accurate accounting of the lives Black people in Ingersoll had to live and endure during that time.
You will be able to purchase a copy of the book during the event via cash, debit, or credit, and have it autographed by Emery himself. The event is free, there is no registration required, and all are welcome to attend.
