Oxford's first Ride Don't Hide event raised over $22 000.
118 cyclists, over $22 000, and a quest to end the stigma around mental illness.
Oxford's first Ride Don't Hide is being called a success after so many members of the community turned out to take part. The money raised will be going to supporting the CMHA's community outreach projects, and according to Executive Director Mike McMahon these funds are vital to projects like the walk in clinics. "The Canadian Mental Health Association, among other partners, are using community dollars to provide walk in mental health and life counselling experiences in the communities where people reside. As an example CMHA has opened in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. each week."
Without the support of the community, McMahon says these programs simply couldn't exist. "This is not a program that is funded by the ministry of health, nor is it funded by our largest partner, the Southwest LHIN - it's something that the Woodstock Hospital, Canadian Mental Health Association, Oxford-Elgin Child and Youth - all of the community partners have really committed to providing this in Oxford County and it takes community resources at this time."
Overall the cyclists covered over 2 700km, and raised $22 570.
