The Norwich Masons will now start meeting in Delhi due to financial complications with the former meeting space.
NORWICH - The Norwich Masons will no longer be meeting in Norwich.
The upper area - known as the assembly hall - at the Norwich Lodge is not up to fire code standards. The cost to renovate the area and get it up to code would have been too much for the organization to bear in light of declining membership numbers.
Immediate past master of Saint Johns Lodge 104 Sean McCoy says they aren't the only group facing these problems, and so they have decided to amalgamate with other groups.
"We're sort of all facing reduced membership and it would be good rather than having three lodges limping by to have one strong lodge."
They will now be meeting in Delhi.
Even though they won't meet in Norwich, McCoy says they will still be active members of the community.
"We give back to the community in a number of ways; for example when there was a high school in Norwich we had a scholarship, we also take part in a lot of fundraising, we take part in other efforts as well."
