Ward 2 Councillor Lynne DePlancke is looking to secure a fourth term on Norwich Township Council next month.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - The race is heating up for a seat on Norwich Township Council.
Incumbent Lynne DePlancke is one of three people looking to represent Ward 2. DePlancke has lived in Norwich all of her life and has been on council for the past 12 years. She explains why she got into local politics.
"I think the fact that I have always loved to volunteer and help out the community and do what I can do for everyone who lives here. It's been a great experience and I am looking forward to hopefully getting back on council and be able to do some more."
DePlancke says a number of issues are coming to the forefront in this election.
"The senior housing and transportation issue keeps coming up, along with our police presence, due mainly to speeding concerns which is a problem in other municipalities as well. Roads and the need to repair more of them, money is always the issue there because there seems to be quite enough to all the roads."
DePlancke also talks about one thing she is really excited about.
"I'm an avid cyclist and walker and one of the initiatives that I am trying to achieve is the development of the abandoned railways in our municipality. They have already been recognized on the Oxford Master Trails Plan and I think it would be such a great asset to our community for recreation purposes, as well as bring tourism opportunities into the Township."
