Norwich Boundary Adjustment Meeting

Eastwood residents are not happy to hear their taxes will go up if a boundary adjustment between Woodstock and Norwich is approved.

Lots of people voiced their questions and concerns at a public meeting regarding a potential boundary adjustment between the city of Woodstock and Norwich Township.

Woodstock currently has its sight set on 1,400 acres of land in the area of the Highway 401 and 403 overpass, currently owned by Norwich.

Several Eastwood residents are worried their property taxes will go up if the adjustment takes place because the Woodstock tax rate is higher than the Norwich rate.

Although Norwich Mayor Larry Martin believes the boundary adjustment would benefit all of Oxford County; he is concerned about the resident impact.

"It's hard to imagine how these people feel for sure because a lot of them have been there on their home farms and their homes for quite a number of years. It would be a hard pill to swallow."

Norwich CAO Kyle Kruger tells Heart FM both municipal councils will consider the public's questions and concerns before they make their final decision.

"All of this information forms part of the information that is considered by both the Woodstock City Council and the Township of Norwich Council when they consider whether they want to continue with the boundary adjustments and those considerations will be at their meetings tentatively scheduled for in August."

Those who didn't attend last nights public meeting can submit a written comment to the city of Woodstock or Norwich Township for their councils to consider. The submission deadline is July 21st.
