The search is on for this year's local woman of inspiration.
The call for nominations is on for Oxford County's most outstanding women.
With International Women's Day coming up in just over a month's time, the Women's Day Committee is looking for nominees for their "AppreSHEation Award".
That would be a local women who is making a difference in improving the status of all women.
Event co-organizer and Women's Councillor Advocate with Ingamo Homes, Phyl McCrum, explains who might make a great candidate. "It might not be somebody who stands out in a crowd, it might be somebody who from the sidelines has worked and spent many years, or been involved in lots of different initiatives. The key piece is we're really looking for unpaid contributions, we're looking for women who do this as part of just because it's the right thing to do."
McCrum says knowing Oxford County, there are likely dozens of worthy candidates. "I think that we are a huge community of inspiring women. I think we need to share the HERstories, we need to share the work that women are doing and the contributions that women make, and let's celebrate them and grow from them."
Past winners include:
2010 - Survivors Voices Oxford
2011 - Zonta Club of Woodstock
2012 - Elizabeth Mayberry
2013 - Tracey Kaiman
The award will be presented on March 7th as part of IWD festivities at the Oxford Auditorium, which are free and open to all women.
