There are only a few days left to file papers to run in the upcoming municipal election.
WOODSTOCK - Whether it's for the position of mayor, councillor or school board trustee, time is running out to file your nomination papers.
While nominations opened January 2, anyone looking to file last minute has until Friday to do so.
Woodstock Deputy City Clerk Amy Humphries says there is more than enough time left to get all of the papers submitted.
"What's actually submitted to the municipality is a handful of forms. There is a lot of reading that the candidates can do to make sure they understand what is required of them but to actually file the nomination there's a few sets of paper work that are required. One being the nomination form but there are some other forms."
Humphries says while the nomination process is very manageable, there's often more involved in the process then some expect.
"You have to open a separate bank account. At the end you have to fill out financial forms and submit it to the municipality. Those forms become public documents and people can challenge the forms. There's a number of rules around receiving donations and providing receipts. It's often times more than people expect."
Humphries says the election rules are very clear that candidates cannot start campaigning until they have filed a nomination.
"I think what we can expect to see after nomination day will be things like election signs, more candidates out there knocking on doors and getting in touch with people and starting their more formal campaign."

Nominations will be accepted until 2:00 pm Friday afternoon.
