The Woodstock Police Service is now the proud owner of two Speed Spy radar systems.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is bringing in new technology in hopes of catching more speeders on city streets.
Officers are now starting to deploy two Speed Spy radars in the Friendly City.
Inspector Paul Hess says they will be installed on telephone poles or signs by the road.
"It will allow us to capture some data including top speed, the average speed above the speed limit including times of day and days of the week. From that information what we gather we will be able to better deploy our resources by placing an officer in that area to maximize our ability to reduce speeding."
Hess stresses that their only job is to help police identify where they need to station more officers.
"It is not photo radar, it does not issue a ticket, and it is not the enforcement tool. It only directs our resources so we can properly enforce speeds."
The Speed Spy radars are battery operated so police will be able to move them from place to place in hopes of identifying more speed prone areas.
