The Woodstock Navy Vets open the 2025-26 regular season on home ice tonight, hosting Wellesley.
WOODSTOCK - The 2025-26 PJHL season gets underway for the Woodstock Navy Vets.
Tonight, they will host the Wellesley Apple Jacks for their home and season opener at Southwood Arena. Assistant Coach, Chris Nauts says how the team should shape up for this season.
"We built it to be able to play any type of style, we get to play on a really great big rink here in Woodstock at the Reeves Community Complex there, the Olympic-sized ice pad, but when you do go onto the road, you play in some smaller barns like the Norwich Arena and whatnot, so we wanted to make sure we were able to play all facets of the game."
It is Nauts first year on the coaching staff with the Vets. He mentions being able to coach some of the players at a younger age through Woodstock Minor Hockey, has helped ease the transition to the Jr. C club. Nauts adds the expectation the staff has for the players this season.
"When an organization like Woodstock here, they've been knocking on the door for a while now, so for us to not come in and say we're trying to win would be kind of a waste, right, so we're here to win, that's for sure."
Puck drop tonight is set for 7:45. It is Terry Fox Night, and fans will be able to donate to the cause and support cancer research. Also, the Vets will be on the ice Sunday afternoon at 1:45 when the Battle of Highway 59 has its first installment of the season, with the Norwich Merchants at Southwood Arena.
