South Gate Centre now has a catering company and a new program and volunteer manager.
WOODSTOCK - Some new and exciting changes have been happening at South Gate Centre.
Over the past couple of months the centre has added some new fitness programs to their line up. The centre has also hired a new program and volunteer manager, James Rijneveld.
Rijneveld tells us about some of these programs.
"Our main fitness core is the most popular with I think there's total body workout, there's stability ball, there's strictly cardio. There are 60 different programs but the fitness is what we have 40 to 50 people coming in for each session which is amazing."
In addition to the new programs and staff, the centre now has their own catering company. Marilyn Watson is a member of the board of directors and she tells Heart FM how the Local Roots Catering Company will impact the centre.
"Anything done by South Gate or at South Gate can be catered by our own staff and volunteers. This year they went ahead and put a bid in to operate the concession stand at Southside Park and we were successful in that bid."
Watson praises everyone who runs the centre behind the scenes.
"We have only five staff members and when you think of the size of the centre and everything it does, they operate 60 programs over the course of the year, that's pretty phenomenal numbers at the centre the way it is. The board of directors only has nine members so there's a lot of heavy duty decisions to be made."
Over 300 volunteers also help out at the centre, which has about 800 members.
Supporters of South Gate or anyone interested in the centre are invited to a free barbeque next month. It will take place at South Gate Centre located at 191 Wellington Street South in Woodstock on June 1st at 12 p.m.
