Woodstock's New Art Gallery Curator wants to expand into the 3rd floor of 449 Dundas.
Sheila Perry is coming to city council Thursday night, with a report outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the current Art Gallery. She cites a lack of storage space, as well as space to hang artwork, among other thing.
The approach to fixing both issues would be to renovate the 3rd floor, and reconfigure the 2nd. Perry's report also points to a lack of security for parts of the building, including the 2nd floor offices.
Mayor Pat Sobeski says Perry is bringing a wealth of ideas to the table. "She would like to renovate the 3rd floor, not major renovations. So she's not only coming forward with those ideas, but different ideas on programming, different ideas as to how to get every segment of the community visiting the art gallery."
As for the question of cost, Perry outlines two scenarios that would be funded partly by the city and partly through grants and fundraising.
The options range from $380,000-630,000, with taxpayers funding $175,000-$375,000.
In speaking this week in Heart FM's webchat with the Mayor, Sobeski seems to be on-board with what Perry is pitching. "What's changed is we certainly have a new Curator whose brought a different approach to it, and she's put together a rather comprehensive list of solid reasons as to why this should occur."
Perry's recommendations would be forwarded to the city's 2014 budget deliberations which are scheduled to start in late-November.
