Warden Larry Martin says the new Oxford County Council members will attend a workshop in February so they can decide how to address residential density in our community.
OXFORD COUNTY - The future of residential expansion in Oxford was discussed at the most recent County Council meeting.
With more people moving to our area, Warden Larry Martin says this has been a concern for everyone.
"We like to grow and we like to expand but at the same point in time, we need to be able to feed the people as well. We have to preserve the farmland as much as we can, but at the same time, we need to grow and prosper. It's a very fine line to walk."
Council looked over a report from staff on the matter, but with the new County Council starting in a few weeks, they decided to schedule a workshop for sometime in the New Year. This means the new council will be able to familiarize themselves with the situation and decide their next steps.
The next Oxford County Council will include six new members; five Mayors and one City-County Councillor for Woodstock. Martin says it will be nice to bring some new perspectives into Council Chambers.
"It's nice to have new blood and I think there are some very competent and younger people moving in so that is good as well. I anticipate good things but we'll have to wait and see and we hope for the best for everybody."
The current Oxford County Council will have its final meeting on Wednesday, November 9th and the new County Council will be sworn in on Wednesday, November 23rd.
