Matthew Chambers would like to secure our industries and provide supports to those affected by the trade war.
OXFORD COUNTY - A familiar face is running for the Oxford NDP in the upcoming federal election.
Matthew Chambers will be on the ballot once again after running in 2019 and 2021 previously.
He works the midnight shift as a custodian with the Thames Valley District School Board. He's also a third degree black belt karate and teaches in Thamesford. He's a life long resident of Oxford County and has been involved with the Kiwanis Club of Ingersoll for several years, dating back to when he was in the Key Club in high school.
Chambers says he's a regular person in Oxford County, someone a lot of people can relate to.
"What I am bringing to this campaign is the lived experience of somebody who has had to work multiple jobs just to get by. Somebody who has had to make those tough decisions like so many of our neighbours do in Oxford County and in Canada in general like having to put off medical or dental care, having to wait to buy groceries until a sale goes on, and having to wait to move out. I wasn't able to move out by myself because I couldn't afford it, so I had to wait until I could find a roommate. That's nothing against my roommate, he's been my best friend for a long time, but I don't think it should have to be that way."
If he's elected as our next Member of Parliament, Chambers would like to secure our industries and provide supports to those affected by this trade war with the United States because we could lose some jobs here in Oxford.
"People need to have the supports available to them and those supports, as they are right now, will not be good enough. We need to strengthen the supports for people who may be in tough spots in the coming years."
He would like to remind the voters out there that you don't have to choose between Liberal or Conservative, there's another option.
"We don't have to choose between crippling cuts to our social services and the status quo. We don't have choose between the lesser of two evils, between delay and deny. We can do better and we deserve better. We are worth more and we deserve better."
Oxford County residents will head to the polls on Monday April 28th.
