WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Navy Vets will be celebrating 50 years this season and are looking to make some waves in the Mid Western Junior C Hockey League.
Woodstock lost in the playoffs last year against Paris and will be open up their season at home on September 18th against the Wellesley Applejacks. General Manager Bill Wallace tells Heart FM they had their rookie camp this past weekend.
"About 40 players from various areas, Kitchener, Waterloo, London and Cambridge area, we also had a lot of kids from Woodstock come out, which was very positive, the competition was excellent for the the three games that we had."
Wallace admits they have already circled a few dates now that the Mid Western Junior C Hockey League has unveiled their upcoming schedule. "We have some games we focus on, you've got games against Paris who put us out last year, the boys are always geared up to play Norwich, but the biggest game we are focusing on right now is our home opener on September 18th as it gives us a chance to get on the ice and see how we gel as a team."
Wallace says they are hoping to have 12 returning players this year and will open up the main training camp on August 11th. They will also be having several events throughout the season to commemorate their 50th anniversary.
