Name The Schools

You have until the end of next week to submit your names for three schools in Tillsonburg.

TILLSONBURG - Oxford County residents are getting the opportunity to name three schools in Tillsonburg.

Superintendent of Student Achievement for the Thames Valley District School Board, Sheila Powell says names are needed for the new Tillsonburg area school as well as for Annandale and South Ridge.

"When students move from one school to another as part of a consolidation, we also provide the opportunity to name the existing schools if a significant number of students are changing schools so that we can truly create a new school community in each of those schools."

Nominations opened just before the Christmas break and run until January 16 says Powell. "A committee of parents from each of the newly formed school communities will have an opportunity to review all of the submissions and it's the parents at each of those schools who actually decide what the name will be for those schools."

"They do not need to be parents who have students at the school. Any member of the school community who lives in the Tillsonburg area are welcome to suggest names. We have had names -- anything from geographically significance to members of the community who are of significance."
