The Woodstock Police conducted a R.I.D.E. check on Saturday, and unfortunately it looks like the message might not be getting through to all drivers.
WOODSTOCK - It was a disappointing showing from the Friendly City during the latest Woodstock Police Service R.I.D.E. check.
Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen is frustrated with the results of Saturday's R.I.D.E. program. "I must say that I a little disappointed because we did have to administer the alco-test which means we have people who were consuming alcohol and driving." No arrests were made for driving while intoxicated, but there were some very close calls. However four people were charged with other Liquor licence act offences, and one person received a three day licence suspension.
VanLeeuwen says she's not sure why the message isn't getting through. "I think we just need to keep talking about it, the media needs to keep getting the information out, the police department needs to keep doing R.I.D.E. programs and educating people because unfortunately there are still people who aren't getting it, they aren't planning ahead, and there are serious consequences with that."
With this being the holiday season there will be parties, but you need to prepare a safe ride home. "We are out, and we're going to be out probably every evening so people need to stop drinking and driving," VanLeeuwen warns.
261 vehicles were stopped with 5 roadside screening devices administered, 4 charges were laid, and one driver was given a 3 day licence suspension.
