Over 170 people are taking part in this years' Woodstock MS walk.
WOODSTOCK - 27 teams and over 170 people have already signed up for the MS Walk happening in Woodstock. All the proceeds from the event will go to the Multiple Sclerosis society as they try to find a cure for the debilitating disease. Heart FM spoke with Trish Beauchemin who has been living with MS for the past 15 years and will be taking part in her 15th walk. She says MS impacts your nervous system and she had days where she can't walk, vision problems, balance and it can impact your short term memory just to name a few of the side affects. She also notes MS can impact everyone differently and some cases can be more severe. Beauchemin says it is overwhelming when you see so many people come out to the MS walks and support the cause. Last year the event in Woodstock raised nearly $80,000.
So far in 2015 participants have already brought in over $25,000 as they try to beat last years mark. All of the money raised locally stays local and is used to help support the people living with MS in Oxford County. Things get started with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the South Gate Centre on Old Wellington Street. Beantown and Scott's No Frills will be providing a light breakfast and several dignitaries will be on hand for some presentations before the walk begins at about 10 a.m.
