Comes after controversial social media post
Hamilton-Centre MPP Sarah Jama has been censured and removed from the NDP caucus over comments she made in support of Palestine.
Party leader Marit Stiles announced her removal from caucus this morning, saying Jama has "undertaken a number of unilateral actions that have undermined our collective work and broken the trust of her colleagues."
This afternoon, the Ford government voted in favour of a motion to prevent the Speaker from recognizing her until she retracts her statement and issues a formal apology.
Jama spoke in the legislature today, and didn't back down from her original statement.
"The unspeakable destruction continues and represents punishment against all Gazans in retaliation for attacks by Hamas. The Ford government has nothing meaningful to say against these atrocities and has now targeted me to distract from its own scandals. And those of us committed to Palestinian life refuse to be distracted."
Jama, who is now listed as an independent, has threatened to take legal action against Premier Doug Ford, .
She has sent a cease and desist letter to his office, calling on him to apologize for and remove a social media post calling for her to resign.
