Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is lifting and moving their donated house today.
INGERSOLL - If you are driving through the Ingersoll area and see a house on wheels, don't be alarmed.
Today is the day. Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is moving their donated house.
Lots of hard work and a great deal of planning has been put into making sure the house was able to be moved. Constructional engineers were hired to make sure the house would make the transition. The house was put through many stages of prep work including removing all the bricks, moving piping and moving electrical.
Not to mention, they also had to come up with an appropriate route to move the house along. On the route there are 10 different bridges that they had to be made sure that they had the proper span and weight requirements.
CEO, Brian Elliot talks about where they're going with the house.
"We are moving and lifting the house up here in London on Gainsborough and moving it down to our property in Ingersoll on Margaret Street. It will be an extremely exciting day."
They are hoping to have the house on the road around 9:00a.m. and hoping to be in Ingersoll around 4:00p.m. The route the house will be taking will be closer to the North of London and into the back way of Ingersoll on the County roads. The roads will not be closed but traffic could be delayed as they will not be going quite the speed limit. Police escorts will be present both in front and behind the house.
Elliot adds details about who will be living in the home.
"Right now we have some applications from families in Ingersoll that are Family Selection Committee is currently going through and hopefully we'll be in a position to announce that family very shortly."
