The OPP reports drivers have been getting slack when it comes to moving over for emergency vehicles.
Oxford OPP officers will be on the lookout for drivers who fail to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles this long weekend.
If you don't slow down and move over for a parked emergency vehicle on the side of the road you could be fined anywhere between $400 and $2,000. You'll also receive three demerit points on your licence.
Constable Stacey Culbert says more drivers have been ignoring this rule of the road over the years.
"In 2015 we had the highest number of charges laid against drivers who failed to slow down and move over. That includes moving over for police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, and also tow trucks as well."
Culbert adds this law is in place to protect the people pulled over.
"A dangerous place for any emergency personnel to be is on the side of a roadway so making that traffic stop or emergency stop is very dangerous. We're counting on all the drivers just to make sure that they help keep everybody safe by slowing down and safely moving over when they can do so."
