Small businesses in the travel and tourism industry are about to get a boost from the province.
Starting today, eligible small businesses can apply to receive a one-time grant between $10,000 - $20,000 through the new $100 million Ontario Tourism and Travel Small Business Support Grant.
Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries says the pandemic has been devastating for travel and tourism, and the province is committed to assisting the sector recover.
"Prior to the pandemic, Ontario’s tourism generated more than $36 billion in economic activity and supported more than 400,000 jobs across the province. Our government is working with small businesses to overcome the challenges of the past year - through programs like the Ontario Tourism and Travel Small Business Support Grant - and help the tourism industry reclaim its place as an economic powerhouse and key job creator in our province."
The money will help businesses such as travel agencies, hotels, motels, local attractions, restaurants and bed and breakfasts.
The grant money is not open to establishments that received the Ontario Small Business Support Grant.
To qualify, businesses must have 99 or fewer employees, and be able to prove they lost at least 20 percent of revenue between 2019 and 2020.
Businesses have until June 25th to apply.
