The South West LHIN has approved a new two site hospice with 10 beds.
STRATFORD - The South West LHIN Board of Directors will be building a two site residential hospice in Huron Perth.
This will include six beds in Stratford and four beds in Central Huron. CEO for the South West LHIN Michael Barrett tells Heart FM they definitely had a need for more beds.
"At the present time there is very limited resources for residential hospice across the wider south west LHIN. Within the County of Oxford we have Sakura House which has 10 beds, we have 10 beds in London, and then additional beds in Owen Sound and that is why the Province has made the decision to invest, not only within our LHIN, but across the Province."
The residential hospice beds will be up and running in March of 2018. The LHIN will provide $105,000 for each bed which will cover costs for Registered nurses. Further fundraising will be needed to cover additional costs.
"Funding actually pays for RN's and personal support but it doesn't cover capital costs, some of the other operational costs, so there is a considerable amount of money that needs to be fundraised locally."
