Middlesex Could Drop Out of The SCOR Action Plan

SCOR's board of directors hopes Middlesex county reconsiders its decision to drop out of the project.

The South Centre Ontario Region - or SCOR - action plan could be winding down. 

SCOR was developed to represent the interests of five counties in the region including Oxford, Middlesex, Elgin, Norfolk, and Brant. 

Two years ago Elgin dropped out and was replaced by a lower tier municipality, Bayham, and now Middlesex has given their notice they will be dropping out and not paying the $35 000 to stay a member. Chair Jim Oliver tells Heart FM they are going to try to convince Middlesex to stay on over the next couple of weeks. 

"First of all we are hoping that they will not act on the notice that they gave us earlier in the year of their intention to that, I guess as part of their budget deliberations for 2016, they are reviewing that and we are meeting with County council in the next week or so to present to them the priorities and the benefits to staying as part of the partnership. But should they act on that notice and should they in fact withdraw from the corporation then I think the board of directors, our group from the five counties and the municipality of Bayham, feel that we probably would not be able to operate in our present form, trying to represent the best interest of the five geographic areas." 

Each municipality is asked to contribute $35 000 to SCOR who works with its board of directors to attract economic development to the region.
