The Tillsonburg Multi-Service Centres is putting out a call for volunteers. They really need help with their transportation and Meals on Wheels programs.
TILLSONBURG - The Tillsonburg Multi-Service Centre is in great need for volunteers for Meals on Wheels and other programs.
Director of Home Support Services Diana Handsaeme says they offer Meals on Wheels in Norwich, Burgessville, Tillsonburg and Stratfordville.
"That is a hot meal to seniors, that otherwise maybe wouldn't be able to cook their own meals and it supports them in meeting their nutritional needs."
They really need help with the volunteer transportation program as well, helping seniors get to medical appointments and errands for essential needs.
"Many of these seniors, there mobility may impede them from accessing public transportation, so it's all done through very kind hearted and generous volunteers, who will pick them up at the door, take them where they need to go and again, we will assist them with getting and that can be such a godsend, when you are going to an appointment to a hospital in London and not exactly sure where you are going, to have that volunteer accompany them and make sure they get to the right place and then bring them home again."
Handsaeme says you can donate as much time or as little time as you want.
"We are very flexible, for transportation or Meals on Wheels, it can be as little as an hour a week, to whatever you would like to do. We are appreciative to anytime that can be offered to support our seniors."
If you are interested in volunteering, you can call the Multi Service Centre at 519-842-9008 ext 275 and ask for Chris. They will do an orientation and support you with any documents you may need to volunteer.
