It's McHappy Day and a portion of the proceeds from all menu items at McDonald's locations will be going to Ronald McDonald House charities.
SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO - McHappy Day has returned to McDonalds locations in Oxford County and beyond, but it's going to be a bit different this year.
For today only, a portion of the proceeds from all menu items will help support Ronald McDonald House locations, which provide families with a free place to stay whenever they have a sick child in hospital.
Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario oversees one Ronald McDonald House in London, one Ronald McDonald Family Room in London, and one Ronald McDonald House in Windsor.
CEO Tracey Keighley-Clarke says they help thousands of families every year.
"Each year for the 4,600 families we serve through our two houses or our family room in London Health Sciences or our day pass program in Windsor, we've saved families about $4.6-million each year."
This includes the cost of hotel stays, parking, food and time off work.
Keighley-Clarke says the average length of stay for families has increased during the pandemic.
"Pre-COVID it was probably about 11 nights, last year it was about 18 and currently in the London house the average stay is about 28 nights."
There is no limit as to how long a family can stay at a Ronald McDonald House, but their child must be receiving treatment.
We have four McDonalds locations here in Oxford County; two in Woodstock, one in Ingersoll and one in Tillsonburg. You can support Ronald McDonald House locations year-round by rounding up the price of your McDonalds order when you pay.
