Mayor Birtch has returned from his trip to Japan, feeling more invigorated about the partnership between our two areas.
Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch was full of excitement when he returned from his recent business trip to Japan.
The trip was part of a SOMA trade mission for cities with Japanese investment.
Mayor Birtch says he was focused on being transparent with residents of the Friendly City back home as he posted pictures and updates on social media, and explains what he did when away. "On the trade mission we met with several organizations and companies looking at investment opportunities that can go both ways. We have one of the highest Japanese investment in all of Ontario that creates many jobs. These trade missions are of utmost importance to the citizens of Woodstock, and we continue to build these special relationships with our partners."
After spending nearly two weeks overseas Mayor Birtch explains one of the main things he will take away from the trip: "One of the biggest things is the cooperation between all the levels of government. I was able to be there and demonstrate that commitment from our municipal government, both from the City, the County, and throughout our region. Woodstock has the right people, and the heart that gets along well with Japanese investment."
Mayor Birtch spoke to Heart FM about what areas we share in common. "It has been amazing! The days were long - the Japanese have some of the same values, care, commitment to family, and quality of life as we have here in Woodstock and throughout Oxford County. It is very moving to be able to be apart of those great partnerships."
This trip came at the same time Ingersoll Mayor Ted Comiskey travelled overseas, and the Warden of Oxford County David Mayberry made a stop in Germany to discuss renewable energy.
