Bed bugs are fairly common but it is easy to protect your home from these tiny pests.
Oxford County's Manager of Health Protection has some tips to make sure everyone has a good night, sleeps tight and doesn't let the bed bugs bite.
It's a good idea to wash your bedding regularly and make sure to seal cracks in your bed frame, walls and floors to make sure bed bugs don't infest your home.
Peter Haywood tells Heart FM some more tips on how to avoid a bed bug infestation.
"To prevent bed bugs from coming into your home; vacuum your mattress often, clean up any clutter, inspect your luggage and its contents when you return from a trip."
If you place your suitcase on your bed while unpacking, bed bugs who may have hitched a ride can easy make themselves at home.
Haywood says some people feel bed bug bites while others don't.
"Some people have no reaction at all to a bed bug bite but for other people they can turn into itchy welts."
Bed bugs are not known to transmit diseases, but if you scratch welts caused by a bed bug it can cause a secondary infection. These tiny insects are usually the size of an apple seed and they are red while they are feeding.
