Man Charged After Substituting a Car Seat With a Case of Beer

Police say a man didn't have a proper car seat for a toddler, so he used a case of beer as a substitute in Perth County.

ATWOOD - A 22 year old man from Wellington North has been charged after police say he used a case of beer as a booster seat. 

OPP pulled over the driver in the Village of Atwood on July 9th at 2:30 a.m. The officer noticed the man was using a 30 can case of beer as a substitute for the two year old child's booster seat. The driver was charged with Fail to Ensure Toddler Properly Secured. A proper child seat was brought to the location and Family & Children's Services has been notified.  

Any child in a passenger vehicle that has not reached 8-years-old or 80 lbs or 4'9" must be secured in some form of booster-seat or child-seat. Those under 40 lbs will require a child-seat and those under 22lbs will require a rear facing child-seat. Always follow manufactures instructions when sizing and mounting child seats.
