After a three year hiatus, Men in Heels in support of DASO returns to Museum Square today.
WOODSTOCK - Men (and women) will be strapping on some heels and tottering around Museum Square in support of DASO.
It used to be known as 'Walk A Mile In Her Shoes', but the newly revamped 'Men in Heels' fundraiser will be taking over Museum Square after a three year hiatus.
Executive Director of DASO Rhonda Hendel hopes the change in timing will help more people take part.
"We did it on a Saturday morning before. Going to a Thursday afternoon is new; we've never done an event like this on a Thursday noon hour. I think it is somewhat a different audience, certainly someone that can get the hour off work and come down. It's more of a lunch hour thing, you don't have to take a Saturday morning when you are busy doing gardening and stuff. We thought we would try a Thursday afternoon and see how it goes!"
Two walks will be happening around the lunch hour today; one at 11:30 a.m. and the other at 12:30 p.m. Food trucks will be parked in the RBC parking lot next door so people can grab a bite to eat.
Hendel says the participants will walk around Dundas Street in pumps and stilettos.
"We're encouraging men to come out and register with us that day and take the short walk. We're going to have some high heels there to symbolize what it's like to walk in a woman's shoes for a period of time but they don't have to, they can come on their own."
Men and women are welcome to sign up for a minimum of $20.
All of the proceeds will benefit DASO's programs helping women who have been physically and mentally assaulted.
