Calling all artists! The Downtown Woodstock BIA is asking local artist to submit designs for their crosswalk project in the Spring.
WOODSTOCK - The Downtown Woodstock BIA has put a call out to local artists.
They are looking for some help for a crosswalk project in the Spring. Manager Virginia Armstrong says they want to make the crosswalks really stand out to improve safety downtown.
"Originally began with the idea of creating a little bit more safety downtown, because it is difficult to cross these crosswalks because they are not regulated. I'm hoping that through art, we can encourage drivers, it might catch their eye and encourage them and stop when they see a pedestrian, now I realize it is not going to solve the problem completely, but I think it's an engaging way to maybe curb the problem."
Artists can now submit their designs for the crosswalk paintings on Perry, Reeve and Graham Streets. Armstrong says they are hoping the artwork will follow the motto of Woodstock, in being the Friendly City.
"So that is what we are really asking for, something that represents friendliness, happiness and boldness to the art as well, but mostly just to reiterate, welcome to the Friendly City."
The art work will be done this Spring and it will be completely funded through the BIA from sponsorships from local businesses. You can pick up an application form by emailing Virginia at info@rhyoga.ca.
