With the amount of time on our hands right now the thought of adopting an animal may be a great idea, but rescue groups are asking people to not rush into volunteering to become a foster, especially if it is only for a short period of time.
OXFORD COUNTY - With more time on our hands, the thought of fostering an animal during the COVID-19 pandemic may seem like a great idea.
However, rescue groups are asking people to not rush into volunteering to become a foster.
Anna Holmes from The Oxford County Animal Rescue says people have a lot of time right now.
"People are home and they are thinking they have tons of time on their hands and they are applying to foster. This is really difficult on the animals because if it is just for a short period of time and they are not adopted then we are rehoming them to another foster. Ideally we are looking for them to find forever homes and in the meantime to have long term foster care until that happens."
Holmes adds that people get hooked on fostering fast.
"I wouldn't necessarily decline anyone thinking I want to foster for the time I am home during the pandemic, because I guarantee, you are going to fall in love with fostering and you are going to become addicted and you are going to want to foster another animal."
The volunteer run organization is always accepting donations and maintains to still have one volunteer on site at their office on Dundas Street. The group welcomes monetary donations through e-transfer as well to practice social distancing right now.
