The City of Woodstock is hosting Public Information Centre's today and tomorrow as they look at potential options for expanding the transit system in the Friendly City.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is hosting a Public Information Centre today and tomorrow to look at the future of our transit system in Woodstock.
City Engineer Harold De-Haan says City Staff is currently doing a transit study, looking at expanding the transit routes.
"We have developed some options, on how we think we can service some of these areas without transit and we are having these meetings to get some public input, see what options they like, what they don't like, that kind of thing."
De-Haan says some of the options that are proposed would mean significant changes to Woodstock City Transit.
"Some of the options are more major, some of them are just tweaking the existing routes. The options are broken up into two categories, one is keeping six routes, which we currently have, the other category is adding a 7th route and we are showing what we can do with each of those criteria. We are also showing a future option that we don't plan to implement now but might be something we want to implement in the future as the City continues to grow and that one is completely new, sort of breaking open the egg and saying, let's start from scratch."
The meetings will last about 1.5 hours each and will happen the Council Chambers at Woodstock City Hall. Anyone who uses public transportation or is considering using public transportation should attend these meetings. Some of the options they are showing are the industrial areas in the City, as they hope to encourage more people to take the bus to work, instead of a car.
They will be hosting two meetings both days at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
