The OPP are warning motorists to lock your vehicles after a rise in thefts
OXFORD COUNTY - The OPP are preaching lock it or lose it when it comes to vehicle thefts.
Police have had a rash of vehicle entries in neighboring counties to Oxford and want to get the message out to protect yourself form this crime of oppurtunity. Most times thieves break into vehicles because the door has been left unlocked and even if your only going to be a couple of minutes, you should always lock your door.
Another thing to keep in mind is never leave your valuables out in plain sight for people to see. Police encourage all vehicle owners to ensure all valuables are removed from their vehicles, the vehicles locked and the keys secured in a safe location away from the vehicle.
OPP remind vehicle operators never to leave vehicles unattended and running. All too often, would-be-thieves are waiting outside stores, fast-food restaurants and other locations just waiting for these crimes of opportunity. Don’t help them out.
