After 11 years with local police service boards, a local woman will be representing us on a national scale.
WOODSTOCK - A familiar face is now the President of the Canadian Association of Police Governance Board.
Mary Ann Silverthorn was appointed to the position at the annual CAPG conference meeting in Montreal on July 16th.
Silverthorn tells Heart FM she would like to speak with the executive of the board as soon as possible.
"I will be trying to establish with them a more predominant method of communicating with our members, just like we do here locally. I think all of that is really important. The more our members know, the more they feel connected to the bigger organization or the organization itself."
Silverthorn says she will also represent the Friendly City on a national scale.
"In the grand scheme of the size of police services, Woodstock is relatively small. If you want to equate that to the big players so to speak, CAPG now has a president of a very small municipal service who is also working with the bigger services of Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and all municipal boards so we are playing with big leagues so to speak."
Silverthorn has served as a member of the Woodstock Police Services Board and the previous Oxford Community Police Service Board for the past 11 years.
Woodstock Police Chief Bill Renton believes Silverthorn is the a great choice for the position.
"She's a very dedicated and incredible member of the board (Woodstock Police Services Board). She has a lot of knowledge and understands the intricacies of the governance issues that go along as a member of a police services board."
