A recent Woodstock Collegiate Institute graduate has been recognized by the Municipal Engineers Association. Kathleen Johnson has won one of ten Ontario-wide bursaries. It was an award created to recognize the technical excellence of entry-level engineering students as well as their community involvement. Director of Engineering Services for Elgin County Clayton Watters says it's great to see a winner from Oxford County. Johnson is off to McMaster University for engineering and says she will be spending her one thousand dollar cheque on books for school. The award hopes to provide a sense of belonging to the profession as well as attract future members. Submissionsrequired a 500-word essay on an engineering-related topic. Johnson chose to write about landfills because of the local tie and her future interest in environmental engineering.
